Diversity Mission Statement of the Anthropology Department
The Anthropology Department Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee recognizes our nation's and the world’s ongoing injustices. We appreciate the racial, ethnic, socio-economic, age, sexual, gender, and religious diversity within the BSU community. We strive for our core institutional values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, to inform our decision-making, resource allocation, and policy development. In order to promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the department, the committee will develop activities to:
- establish an environment free of discrimination to foster the exchange of various ideas and to facilitate learning and self-growth opportunities for students, faculty, and staff
- increase awareness of our planet’s rich cultural diversity in order to facilitate sensitive and perhaps uncomfortable discussions among students, faculty, and staff
- promote the development of a decolonized curriculum and co-curricular activities to familiarize students with the background, contributions, and perspectives of historically marginalized or hidden groups
- support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty and students
